Mormonism (LDS): Satan's Great Masquerade

“Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me… besides me there is no savior.” - Isaiah 43:10-11
REO Speedwagon’s 1980 hit “Take It on the Run” opens with the lyrics: “Heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend who heard it from another…” You’ve probably heard something similar... A friendly missionary at your door or a video from Salt Lake City saying, “We believe in the same Jesus you do.” They cover the basics: born in Bethlehem, mother named Mary, crucified under Pontius Pilate, buried, and rose on the third day. At first, it sounds reassuring, even disarming. After all, it’s hard to tell a kind neighbor that their faith rests on something other than the biblical Christ. Can’t we just focus on the similarities?
The Bible never softens the main issue: Scripture draws a clear line, demanding complete loyalty to God’s Word—every detail (Matthew 5:18). John 1:1 states: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” This does not suggest Jesus became a god, was the spirit brother of Lucifer, or an exalted man who attained divinity. The eternal, uncreated Word—the second Person of the one true God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit)—spoke galaxies into existence (Colossians 1:16-17), holds all things together (Hebrews 1:3), and shares equal, eternal essence with the Father (Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 43:10).
Mormon doctrine offers a distinct perspective on a pseudo “Christ,” presenting him as a created being and spirit brother to Lucifer. It teaches that God the Father was once a man from another world who progressed to godhood. It describes a heaven with many gods, each with spirit wives and spirit children in what is called exaltation. Early leaders, including Brigham Young, taught that Jesus was conceived through the union of the Father (a resurrected man with a body of flesh and bones) and Mary. Contemporary official sources maintain a belief in literal fatherhood, though they avoid graphic descriptions. These teachings reflect foundational differences from traditional Christian Scripture.
These are not minor differences in emphasis or interpretation. The Bible calls them “teachings of demons” (1 Timothy 4:1) that contradict the God who says, “I am the Lord, and there is no other; besides me there is no God” (Isaiah 45:5). To affirm Mormonism as legitimate Christianity is not true or kind. It is the cruelty of leaving people in a heretical system that points them away from the true Christ and only Savior who can rescue them.
What True Christianity Is:
The Bible defines Christianity by three essential truths:
  1. Sola Scriptura — the full, perfect, inerrant, sufficient, and unchanging Word of God as our only authority. Not the Bible plus the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price, or living “prophets” (heretics) who can override previous revelation.
  2. Sola Gratia, Sola Fide, Solus Christus, Sola Deo Gloria — justification is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone, to the glory of God alone. It is not by temple ordinances, celestial marriage, baptism for the dead, or working toward “godhood.” The new birth is the Holy Spirit’s work alone (John 3:3-8). It is not a checklist.
  3. Union with Christ — we are born again into Christ’s Body, the true Church King Jesus purchased with His blood (Acts 20:28). This is not membership in a man-made organization out of Rome or Utah claiming exclusive authority and declaring every other church an abomination.
Three Groups Outside the Ark:
The Bible describes three groups, and good intentions do not change the outcome:
  • First, outright rejectors: atheists, agnostics, and those who openly mock the God of Holy Scripture.
  • Second, people change who Christ by adding to or subtracting from the Bible. For example, Islam’s version of Jesus is a prophet who never died on the cross. Roman Catholicism’s version of Jesus is continually re-sacrificed as a wafer and seen as Mary’s assistant. Mormonism’s version of Jesus is the exalted spirit brother of Lucifer. Others do similar things. They say they believe in Christ, but it is not the same Christ who said, “Before Abraham was, I am” (John 8:58). It’s not the eternal Word. It’s not the Lamb of God slain before the foundation of the cosmos.
  • Third, those who know the truth but choose not worship in spirit and truth—like the demons who believe and tremble (James 2:19), or false prophets Jesus warned about who will hear, “I never knew you” (Matthew 7:21-23).
No one in these groups is baptized into Christ, the true Ark of Salvation.
The Flood Is Coming — The Door Is Still Open:
The end of all things is near (1 Peter 4:7). Every person will stand before God and be judged by His unchanging Word (John 12:48). Love covers many sins (1 Peter 4:8), but it does not forgive blasphemy against the Holy Spirit’s teaching about Christ. The same love that saved Noah’s family also sent the flood. The waters of judgment are rising again. The Christ of Scripture, not the counterfeit version of Mormonism, is the only entry into the Ark of Salvation.
Eternity matters. The truth matters. Who Christ is matters. The Jesus Christ of Holy Scripture is the only one who saves. He is the One who said, “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30) and “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). The Jesus described in the Book of Mormon differs from the Jesus of the Bible, and that difference matters. The invitation remains: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). This eternal sabbath rest is received by grace alone through faith alone in the Christ of Scripture alone. It’s not something earned in addition to or after temple work.
Key Passages to Examine for Yourself:
Read the following passages in context. Compare them with official LDS teachings found in the Journal of Discourses and current manuals. The truth is not afraid of honest examination:
  • Isaiah 43:10-11: “Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me… besides me there is no savior.” (Condemns eternal progression and men becoming gods.)
  • Isaiah 44:6, 8: “I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no God… Is there a God besides me? There is no Rock; I know not any.” (Rules out polytheism and exaltation.)
  • John 1:1-3, 14: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God… All things were made through him… And the Word became flesh.” (Jesus Christ is eternal Creator, not a created being and spirit brother.)
  • Colossians 1:16-17: “By him all things were created… He is before all things.” (Jesus created Lucifer; He cannot be his spirit brother.)
  • Numbers 23:19 & Malachi 3:6: “God is not man… For I, the Lord, do not change.” (God was never a man who progressed or ascended to divinity.)
  • Luke 1:35: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you… therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.” (Conception by the Holy Spirit, not physical intercourse by the Father.)
  • Ephesians 2:8-9: “By grace you have been saved through faith… not a result of works.” (Temple works and exaltation contradict this.)
  • Galatians 1:8-9: “Even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary… let him be accursed.” (Joseph Smith’s angel and “restored” gospel fall under this curse.)
  • 2 Timothy 3:16-17: “All Scripture is breathed out by God… that the man of God may be complete.” (The Bible alone is sufficient; additional scriptures are not only unnecessary, but blasphemy.)
  • Revelation 22:18-19 (with Deuteronomy 4:2; Proverbs 30:5-6): Warning against adding to or taking away from God’s Word. (Joseph Smith’s changes and new volumes violate this.)
Don’t take my word for it, or anyone else’s. Be like the noble Bereans (Acts 17:11): “They received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.”
The real Jesus Christ—the eternal Son—is still inviting you. The door of the true Ark is open, but it will not stay open forever. Choose this day whom you will serve. Search the Scriptures. Come to the one true Christ of Scripture now, by grace alone, and find rest in the Word of Truth… not synthetic writings filled with lies.
These are not obscure or private interpretations, but the plain testimony of the one true God. Read them. They do not bend. They never return void.
